There’s something undeniably magical about cherry blossom season in Seattle — the air carries a hint of warmth, the world turns soft and pink, and creativity flows like petals in the wind. This past weekend, I had the opportunity to work with local model and friend Flo for a vibrant springtime portrait session at the Washington Park Arboretum — a location known for its amazing beauty during the Sakura blossom season.
But this wasn’t just any shoot — this was a vibe.
Setting the Tone: Building a Mood Board
Before we rocked the session, Flo and I spent time co-creating a mood board to lock in our aesthetic. Our inspiration drew from a blend of K-pop glam, spring streetwear, and a touch of rockstar edge — think floral rebellion with cherry blossom softness.
We curated images that spoke to:
- Warm, golden hues
- Playful rebellion (think leather meets floral)
- Candid energy mixed with editorial sharpness
- Soft backdrops contrasted with confident poses
This process helped us align on wardrobe, posing, and emotional tone — setting the stage for a session that felt intentional and inspired.
The Location: Washington Park Arboretum in Bloom
The Arboretum in early spring is nothing short of cinematic. The cherry trees were in full bloom, offering a dreamscape of pale pink petals, winding trails, and reflective water features. It became a natural canvas for us to paint our story.
Flo’s outfit equally created a dynamic contrast with the soft, fleeting beauty of the blossoms. The blend of urban attitude and delicate surroundings made every shot feel like a visual paradox in the best way.
Final Thoughts
This spring session with Flo reminded me why I love what I do. It’s not just about clicking the shutter; it’s about co-creating an experience where personality and season collide. From mood board to golden hour, this shoot was full of storytelling and spontaneity.
